Two young rally drivers from Turin, Italy, had an idea in 1977: they wanted to make motorsports safety equipment safer, more fashionable, and all around better.
The first-ever fireproof racing suit was created a year later. It changed the course of Formula 1 racing, even after withstanding 11 seconds of fire. More would follow in the ensuing years: car seats, harnesses, steering wheels, helmets, gloves, and more. It seemed like everything Sparco touched turned to gold.
